Summary:
For computer professionals who wish to demonstrate expert network engineering skills and mastery of Cisco products and solutions. This top-of-the-line certification is for individuals who work specifically with Cisco products. Long-time CCIEs (>10 years) can apply for the CCIE Emeritus designation.

Initial Requirements:
There are no prerequisite certifications.

To earn a CCIE credentials, you must first pass a two-hour written qualification exam ($350) and then the corresponding eight-hour hands-on lab exam ($1500) for your chosen track. The hands-on lab exam must be first attempted within 18 months of passing the written CCIE exam. If you don't pass the lab exam within 3 years of passing the written exam, you must take the written exam again.

There following tracks are available:

- Collaboration (CCIE Collaboration): deploy solutions including voice, video, IM, presence, and call centers.

- Data Center (CCIE Data Center): implementation and troubleshooting of data center technologies.

- Routing and Switching (CCIE R&S): original CCIE track; networking across LAN and WAN interfaces, routers and switches.

- Security (CCIE Security): end-to-end secure network solutions.

- Service Provider (CCIE SP): build and maintain extensible service provider network infrastructures.

- Service Provider Operations (CCIE SP Ops): troubleshoot and maintain complex service provider environments.

- Voice (CCIE Voice) - Enterprise Voice-over-IP (retiring Feb 14, 2014, replaced by Collaboration track).

- Wireless (CCIE Wireless) - wireless LAN technology

CCIE Emeritus status is available to individuals who have held the CCIE designation for more than 10 years. There is no exam associated with Emeritus status, but you must submit an application to Cisco and pay an $85 annual fee.

Continuing Requirements:
CCIE certifications remain valid for two years.

To recertify. pass any CCIE written or lab exam or the current CCDE written or practical exam, or pass the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board review within the 24 month period immediately preceding your current recertification deadline. Having an active CCIE, CCDE, or CCAr certification automatically extends your active Associate, Professional, Specialist, and Expert level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
